 E.G.U Northern Counties Boys Qualifying Championship

Cumbria had a fine win in the Northern Counties Boys Qualifying Championship and go forward to represent the Northern Counties in the EGU Boys County Finals at the Berwick on Tweed Golf Club 24-26 August 2010.

 

Lancashire took a slender lead at the half way stage on a testing course at Furness on Walney Island, with a, best five scores to count, total of 364 followed by Durham 370 and Cumbria one stroke behind them.   Yorkshire’s Paul Lockwood had a good score of 69 two under par.

 

In the afternoon Lancashire, Cumbria and Yorkshire all seem to be neck and neck and it was not till the last Cumbrian player was in that the final positions were known.  Cumbria’s score of 727 two strokes ahead of Yorkshire, clinched the title for the first time in the history of the Championship. Lancashire finished a further four strokes back.

 

A fine display by Christopher Thursby of Cumbria with a 72-65 (course record)137 gave him the best score of the day and the John Todd Trophy.  Paul Lockwood of Yorkshire had the best first round with a 69 and Sam Young of Yorkshire took the second round with a 67.
