AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

(one round each day)

THE DARLINGTON GOLF CLUB
QUALIFICATIONS
- The Championship is open to any male playing member of a Club affiliated to the County Unions of Cheshire, Cumbria, Durham, Isle of Man, Lancashire, Northumberland and Yorkshire, and he must not have taken part in a golf championship of any other County, or represented another County Union, during the previous 12 months.
- Must have attained the age of 55 years on or before the day of the Championship.
- Must have a C.O.N.G.U playing handicap not exceeding 12 at the time of entry.
CONDITIONS OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP
- 150 Competitors shall be eligible to compete. In the event of entries being over-subscribed, a ballot will be held of the higher handicapped players, and where necessary, by age groups in the proportions provided by the Rules.
- No entry fee will be refunded unless written/email/fax notice of withdrawal is received before the closing date for entries, except to any entrant who may be balloted out and who does not subsequently compete.
- The winner will be the competitor who returns the lowest gross medal aggregate score over 36 holes. In the event of a tie the Championship will be shared. Prizes will be awarded to the winner and the runner-up.
- Subsidiary competitions (gross medal scores over 36 holes) will also be played within the Championship in the age groups of 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70 and over.
- A prize will also be awarded for the best net score returned on each day of the Championship.
- No competitor shall receive more than one prize, and ties will be decided as provided by the Rules.
- The Championship will be played in accordance with the Rules of golf and the Rules of amateur Status as approved by R & A Rules Limited, and the rules of the Championship and the Local Rules approved by the Championship Committee.
- Competitors are required to play with golf balls which are on the current R & A List of Conforming Golf Balls.
- Conforming Driver Heads: Any driver the player carries must have a clubhead, identified by model and loft, that is named on the current List of Conforming Driver Heads issued by the R&A. Penalty for breach of Condition: Disqualification
- Players shall walk at all times during a stipulated round unless permitted to ride by the Championship Committee.
- Distance-Measuring Devices: In all Northern Counties' Tournaments a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g. gradient, windspeed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.
- Note:
I. Trolleys with a distance-measuring capability: May be used provided any other features, which are non-conforming, are disabled (e.g. ‘taped up’ or switched off).
II. Multi-functional devices (such as a mobile phone) with a distance-measuring application may not be used. Penalty for Breach of a or b: Disqualification.
ENTRIES
All entries must be made on the official Entry Form and sent to the Hon. Secretary by 22nd June 2012. All players who hold a CONGU handicap must be in possession of an "active" handicap. Should the player not have a CDH number the Entry Form will need to be signed by an official of the player's home club.
Payment can be made by enclosing a cheque made payable to "EGU Northern Counties" for £35 OR by electronic payment to Account no: 40385701 Sor Code: 01-30-99. Use your surname as reference.
The acceptance or refusal of entries shall be referred to the Championship Committee whose decision is final.
